6 months in Canada

As part of our training, we had the opportunity to go abroad for a semester in Canada, more specifically in Matane. I immediately appreciated the idea of being able to spend my third semester in another country. At first, I was anxious to go so far away and then, the desire to discover a new culture, another « world » was established.

The Tourism training allowed me to discover another way of learning. The teachers are more present for the students, they don’t hesitate to use the familiar form, to take news or even to tell us about their weekends! On the other hand, even if the weeks were lighter than at the IUT, we had to do a lot of group work, which allowed us to work in groups with our new classmates.

This experience in Canada also allowed me to travel and discover big cities like Montreal and Quebec City.

Matane is a beautiful and small town. When we arrived it was 23° but winter quickly arrived as well as the snow… It was the first image I had of Canada: the cold. I was not mistaken. The climate is cold and snowy in winter but, with the right clothes, you can get used to it easily.

At first it takes time to adapt to the different pace but you quickly get used to the large stores open late in the evening and the shops open on Sundays.

I also had the chance to celebrate Halloween for the first time in America, it was a great experience and really different from Halloween in France.

These few months abroad went by very quickly, too quickly even, but it was an unforgettable experience for me, the Canadian culture is fantastic. Sympathizing with Canadians was very easy. Indeed, they do not hesitate to integrate us and make us discover their little world!
I realize how lucky I was.
